Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended on Feb. 2 a presentation of robots produced by China’s AGIBOT Innovation and the Minth Group hosted by the Chinese Cultural Center in Belgrade, where he also announced that Serbia could be the first country in Europe to start producing humanoid robots, as early as this year.

After a meeting with representatives of the two Chinese companies, Vucic said a robot factory could be built in Serbia, followed by data factories. The president explained that the robots were able to perform household tasks and assist people with disabilities, but also to conduct border control, adding that they could also be armed.

"At our next military parade, we will have thousands of armed robots to further secure our country, but I will have to ask President of China Xi Jinping first, hoping that, as a friend of Serbia’s, he would help with that," Vucic said.

The president explained that between 2026 and 2030, 50 data factories could be built in Serbia, where people and robots would work together, with robots learning from human workers.

"The value of the investments is EUR100 million, involving Chinese partners and Serbia. Starting tomorrow, we are forming a working group to push this forward, so that by September or October we can already show what we are able to make in this country," Vucic said.

Also attending the robot presentation were China’s ambassador to Serbia Li Ming and Serbia’s Minister of Science and Technological Development Bela Balint.
