Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric and the foreign minister of Malawi, George Tapatula Chaponda, signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultation in Belgrade on Feb. 19, between the foreign ministries of Serbia and Malawi.

Speaking at a joint news conference after the meeting, Djuric said that Serbia “continues the Yugoslav policy” toward Africa and that the talks were productive. “Nowadays, when Serbia once again has capacity to establish cooperation with countries that share the same values, and are located on the African continent, I can say that Serbia continues the Yugoslav policy in the domain of maintaining friendship with the countries and peoples of Africa,” Djuric stated.

Chaponda assessed that the signing of the memorandum strengthened the relations between Serbia and Malawi even more. “We just had a bilateral meeting and have in this way strengthened our two countries’ relations even more. In the previous years, our relations were strengthened through regular engagements and high level visits between the two capitals,” stated Chaponda.
