Local elections (BETAPHOTO/DRAGAN KARADAREVIC)
In an interview for the April 2 edition of the NIN weekly, political scientist Djordje Vukadinovic opined that the results of the March 29 regular local elections in ten Serbian municipalities showed that the country is, in fact, “split into two equal halves.”
“The results show a gradual trend of regime weakening in municipalities and areas where they traditionally had strong support. The opposition has reason to be somewhat satisfied with these results, but none for euphoria or triumph,” Vukadinovic said.
According to him, the outcome of the elections partially met the regime’s expectations.
“[The results] fulfilled the regime’s imperative for these elections, which was a ten-to-zero victory. Albeit, the [victory] was far narrower than they thought or expected, but they still achieved those numbers,” the analyst concluded.
