The Green-Left Front announced on April 2 that they would not take part in the consultations of political parties called by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

They believe that Vucic’s invitation did not come out of a true desire to overcome the problems and divisions in the society and maintain that it was just another ploy to keep the Progressives’ criminal “octopus” in power. The Front stated that one cannot call for talks on one day and, on the next, send punishment squadrons to raid faculties, the Rectorate or the opposition parties’ premises.

“You cannot beat people up at local elections, steal votes, arrest students and citizens, refer to political opponents as terrorists or Ustashe, organize the occupation of universities, persecution of activists, wiretapping of MPs, false hunger strikes, paramilitary camps around state institutions, abuse of police, media control, devastation of institutions or protection of the people responsible for multiple deaths due to their corruption, and expect us to accept the feigned invitation to a social dialogue,” the statement reads.

The Front stated that they would not take part in this and that, as a parliamentary party, they declared their position on crucial matters in the People’s Assembly, the work of which they participated in, or in direct talks with the citizens. “We call for the scheduling of early parliamentary elections as soon as possible. We believe that Serbia’s future lied in the EU, that the Progressives’ regime was the biggest obstacle to the country’s European integration because, if true reforms were to be carried out that are necessary for Serbia to join the EU, a large part of the Progressive Party’s regime would be in prison,” it was declared in the statement.
