European Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner said on April 29 that the Serbian government is expected to swiftly implement the Venice Commission’s recommendations regarding the so-called Mrdic Laws and that Serbia’s new interior affairs draft law must be aligned with EU standards.
In an interview for BETA, Brunner emphasized that the Commission was quite clear in its recommendations pertaining to the controversial set of judicial laws passed in January as proposed by ruling Progressive Party of Serbia MP Ugljesa Mrdic.
“We expect the swift implementation of the recommendations. It is important for the Serbian authorities to act quickly and realign the recently implemented judicial reforms with EU standards,” Brunner said after a meeting with Serbian officials.
Brunner made it clear that his comment also applies to the new draft interior affairs law and underlined that any reform of such scope must be implemented inclusively and transparently.
