Elections in Serbia (BetaPhoto/Milos Miskov)
An early election in Serbia is more likely to be held this autumn than in July, because the process requires that all political and institutional activities are taken in accordance with a precisely defined timetable and in a very short time, the Belgrade pro-government daily Vecernje Novosti reported on May 5.
“The period from October until late November provides enough time for adoption of amendments to laws, implementation of recommendations by international bodies and preparation of the election process without pressing deadlines,” according to the daily.
The daily wrote that the expected parliamentary debate on a no-confidence motion also represents a big obstacle to holding a snap election on July 12, the possible date mentioned by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, or alternatively in the period from October until late November.
