Serbia is the only EU member candidate in the Western Balkans that has not aligned with the EU’s four new foreign policy decisions pertaining to Belarus and the situation in the Ukraine, but has aligned with the decision on restrictive measures against Myanmar.

As the EU announced on May 13, Serbia has not aligned with the decision of April 23 on additional restrictive measures over Russia’s activities destabilizing the situation in the Ukraine, including limitations on the Russian “shadow fleet,” the ban on transactions with another 20 Russian banks and the ban on the use of the RUBx crypto currency and the digital ruble.

Serbia has also not aligned with the decision of April 23 on additional limitations over the involvement of Belarus in Russia’s aggression on the Ukraine, including an expanded list of goods that may contribute to the military and technological strengthening of Belarus or the development of its defense and security sector. It has also not aligned with the April 23 decision on restrictive measures over the activities that undermine or harm the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of the Ukraine, or with the restrictive measures of the same date over the situation in Belarus and its involvement in Russia’s aggression on the Ukraine.

All other member candidates from the Western Balkans have aligned with the four new decisions of the EU Council – North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will ensure that their national policies conform to these decisions, and the EU takes note of this commitment and welcomes it, it was declared in a statement. All Western Balkan candidate countries have aligned with the Council’s decision of April 27 on extending the restrictive measures over the situation in Myanmar. They will ensure that their national policies conform to these decisions, and the EU takes note of this commitment and welcomes it, the statement reads.
