On May 14, the Democratic Party called on all MPs to immediately leave the ongoing parliament sitting, thereby refusing to participate in “regime’s theatre production” and ceasing to allow Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic “to humiliate and insult” them.

“This is the only way [MPs] can show they stand with Serbia’s rebelling public and not with the regime,” reads the press release.

According to the Democratic Party, the operation of the National Assembly of Serbia has been reduced to a badly-produced farce in which Speaker Brnabic “insults, humiliates and disciplines anyone who accepts to participate in Vucic’s simulacrum of democracy.”

The party went on to express its belief that state institutions cannot be fixed by participating in their abuse.

“From the moment the regime used a forbidden weapon against its citizens, when it began beating children – high school and university students – all while the Assembly justified and encouraged this, any argument in favor of collaborating with the regime has ceased to exist. [The members of the regime] have long been far more than mere political opponents – they are proven enemies of our society,” the Democrats stated.

The opposition party concluded by claiming that surveys conducted by the EU and published on its Eurobarometer website prove that more than two-thirds of Serbia’s public do not trust the National Assembly of Serbia.
