Movement of Free Citizens vice-president Aris Movsesijan said on May 14 that the political situation in the country has changed, stressing that institutions no longer reflect the true situation in society.
"There is a new reality and new social actors who are not adequately represented in parliament. This is why there is an obligation to call elections, while restoring citizens' trust in the electoral process and calming social tensions," Movsesijan told the Newsmax Balkans TV station, the movement said in a statement. He warned that politics could not be led with symbols and divisions, while at the same time no one was being called to account for numerous scandals and trust in institutions has collapsed, adding that a free media is the key to free elections.
Movsesijan stressed that European integrations are not a goal on their own, but a way to improve the functioning of the state and quality of life of citizens in Serbia. "We are not joining the EU for the sake of the EU, but to fix the situation in the country, from institutions to the standard of living to the safety of food and freedom of movement. Serbia must regain its credibility and trust, both at home and internationally, because only then do you get a serious partner and a serious place in Europe," Movsesijan said.
He stressed that it is necessary to create political alternatives with a clear and strong pro-European policy, which, he said, will restore the trust of citizens in the process of European integrations and demonstrate that Serbia belongs to the European family of nations. "We are a part of Europe and that needs to be the number one thing for us. A different Europe is needed, in which Serbia will sit at the table where decisions are made," Movsesijan said.
