A delegation from Ukraine is expected to visit Serbia “later this week, and could possibly be headed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” TV N1 reported.
If confirmed, this would be Zelenskyy’s first visit to Serbia since taking office in 2019 and since Russia launched invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
However, considering the ongoing war in Ukraine, the visit could face last-minute cancellation, TV N1 reported in the evening on May 18.
Although Zelenskyy’s potential arrival in Belgrade has not been officially confirmed, diplomatic sources in Belgrade expect that the two countries could soon sign a memorandum of understanding on trade cooperation.
Serbia and Ukraine share a desire to join the European Union (EU), with mutual support on their respective EU paths being among the key pillars of bilateral relations, TV N1 reported. Another vital point of bilateral relations is mutual support for territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and Ukraine, the TV added.
