At least 10 people were injured in the morning on May 25 when a tram derailed and crashed into a building in central Belgrade at around 9.30 a.m.
Four emergency medical vehicles were dispatched to the scene, an investigation was launched, and traffic halted in that part of the capital.
Belgrade’s public transport company GSP Beograd said preliminary findings indicated that “one of the possible causes of the incident could be human error, namely excessive speed while passing through a switch, as well as issues related to checking the position of the switch itself”.
The company reported that the tram, operating on Line 5, struck a building, and that several passengers and the female tram driver were injured in the crash. According to the report, most of the injuries were minor, but two passengers sustained severe injuries, including limb fractures.
