Serbia Center MP Stefan Janjic said on May 2 that the government was going to postpone a debate on a no confidence in government motion for the fall, unless it calls elections before that.
"Of course there is the possibility that there won't be a debate at all, if [Serbian President Aleksandar] Vucic decides to wait until regular elections. In any case, we are not talking about a date for holding a session anymore, but the authorities' attitude toward parliament and the very principle of parliamentary responsibility," Janjic told the Danas newspaper. He added that he does not believe parliament speaker Ana Brnabic's promise that a debate on the no confidence in government motion would be on the agenda in the last week of May, before parliament's spring sitting ends.
Movement of Free Citizens president Pavle Grbovic said that if the debate is not held by the end of May, it will no longer be possible during the summer or emergency sessions. "The demand has largely fulfilled its purpose - it has shown the epic cowardice of the authorities which are not just running away from elections, but any debate," Grbovic said.
Freedom and Justice party MP Dalibor Jekic said that the debate on no confidence will be kept off the agenda until fall, unless the authorities call elections meanwhile. "This has entirely exposed another deception by Ana Brnabic, who has 'firmly promised' a debate on no confidence in the government, in an attempt to create a semblance of democratic dialog. Today we see that nothing is going to happen" he said.
