Party of Freedom and Justice president Dragan Djilas said on Aug. 6 that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has declared "himself the greatest ruler in Serbia's history" while the reality is that Serbia has never been "more in debt and isolated."
Djilas said in a statement that Vucic is not telling the truth when he claims that Serbia is today "the strongest in its history - economically, politically and militarily," adding that a bigger problem is that he is presenting the current period as the most successful in Serbian history.
He stressed that Vucic's claims of being "more successful than Emperor Dusan, Despot Stefan, Prince Milos and King Petar and all those who built Serbia and defended it is a dangerous manifestation of the cult of personality of a man who is out of touch with reality and convinced that history begins and ends with him." He said that the results of Vucic's rule are "record debt, captured institutions, a denigrated education sector and ruined agriculture and energy," as well as a country, which he claimed, is "a champion in corruption" and trailing behind in the process of joining the EU.
Djilas said that it is also untrue that Serbia is economically, politically and militarily the strongest as the public debt has surpassed EUR41 billion, while the domestic economy is experiencing huge problems and the Serbian Army lacks manpower.
