Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Aug. 21 that he will call elections in a few days and that this defeats the "blockaders' [student protest movement] claims that [he] doesn't dare call elections."
He reiterated that he is hoping to win in Uzice and Novi Sad and announced that he will visit the cities "in a few days," going on to say that the student movement members "are canvassing and working hard" in the election campaign.
Commenting on statements by Movement for the Decentralization of Serbia president Dragan Milic about large numbers of people being granted Serbian citizenship, Vucic said 713,000 new citizens were registered from 2000 to 2012. Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic has denied Milic's claims that he had it on authority from the Interior Ministry that 238,890 people were given Serbian citizenship over a decade and that a "huge election fraud is being prepared."
