One of the leaders of the Democratic Front, Andrija Mandic, announced on Sept. 19 that the parties that won the 2020 elections in Montenegro -- his party, Democratic Montenegro and the United Reform Action Civic Movement, had agreed on forming a new government and putting forward Miodrag Lekic as premier designate.

Mandic said Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic would be notified that Lekic was the premier designate by midnight local time. The deadline for the Montenegrin president to announce the name of the new premier designate, put forward by 41 MPs, expires on Sept. 19.

Mandic said the new government would be formed according to a system of parity, with the United Reform Action Civic Movement, CIVIS, Socialist People's Party and possibly ethnic minority representatives forming one half, and the Democratic Front and the Democrats the other.

Lekic said a great stride had been made on this day in the political system of Montenegro. According to him, it was made possible to inaugurate a cabinet based on electoral will.
