President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is visiting the Western Balkans this week to reaffirm Brussels’ support for the region’s accession to the European Union, and its gradual integration into the single market.
The European Commission said the visit would also be an opportunity for von der Leyen to discuss with representatives of the Western Balkans Six the 2024–2027 Growth Plan for the region, worth EUR6 billion. She will leave for Tirana on Oct. 13 to meet with Albanian President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama, and later that day to Montenegro, where she will speak at the Regional Investment Conference for the Western Balkans in the coastal town of Tivat.
Von der Leyen will also meet with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic and Prime Minister Milojko Spajic in Tivat. The next day, before traveling to Bosnia and Herzegovina, she will open the Montenegro Investment Conference. During her stay in Bosnia, she will visit the Srebrenica Memorial Center and meet in Sarajevo with members of the tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers Borjana Kristo.
The EC president will arrive in Serbia on Oct. 15 to meet with Prime Minister Djuro Macut and President Aleksandar Vucic. Later in the afternoon she will head for Pristina to meet Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and the outgoing premier, Albin Kurti. Her last stop is Skopje, where she is scheduled to have talks with North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, and the country’s speaker, Afrim Gashi.
