The Montenegrin police announced on June 4 that security measures throughout the country had been raised to the highest level due to the European Union-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat.
The police have raised the security status to level one in connection with the EU-Western Balkans Summit in the entire territory of the country and on all directions of movement and staying locations of officials and delegations of the EU and Western Balkans, it was stated in the announcement.
The announcement further reads that the goal is to ensure the safety of all officials, delegations, participants and guests of the Summit and of citizens who are staying in or transiting Montenegro, and to enable them a safe, pleasant and dignified stay in Montenegro. The Police Department, in cooperation with the Agency for National Security, is carrying out increased intelligence activities and, preemptively – repressive, counter-diversion and operational ones at all levels, in order to guarantee full safety of the participants and the unobstructed holding of this event, which bears exceptional international and historical importance for Montenegro, it was stated.
It was explained in the announcement that “enhanced and restrictive security measures will be undertaken and implemented during the Summit, including temporary limitation of access to particular locations and municipalities and temporary stoppage or redirection of traffic on particular roadways at times of arrival, departure or movement of international delegations.”
