Atop the announced 10 percent increase of retail gas prices as of Nov. 1, gas bills in Serbia could additionally rise by up to 20 percent amid Bulgaria’s decision to introduce a huge transit fee for the gas passing through its territory, Belgrade daily Danas reported in its Oct. 17 issue.
Bulgaria’s decision, which took effect immediately, envisages a transit fee of USD10.76 per 100 cubic meters of Russia’s natural gas, which is supplied through the Bulgarian extension of the Turkish Stream, the so-called Balkan Stream.
Energy expert Velimir Gavrilovic told the daily that the transit fee imposed by Bulgaria would increase by between 10 and 20 percent the price state natural gas provider Srbijagas paid for gas supplies.
Gavrilovic also said it was unlikely that Serbia could avoid paying the new Bulgaria’s transit fee by switching to gas supplies via Ukraine, due to the ongoing war in the country.
