United Media
The fact that ownership of SBB has changed hands will not affect the operation of independent media houses N1 and Nova S, which will remain within the United Group and retain their editorial policy, United Media CEO Aleksandra Subotic confirmed on Feb. 13.
“Despite much public speculation on the future of our brands and company, the fact is that there are no negotiations or plans to change the ownership structure of United Media, or the editorial staff of our media houses. [On Feb. 12], representatives of the ruling party gave inappropriate statements to try to convince the public that the sale of SBB spells the end to [United] media, but that simply isn’t true. Our media continue to operate at full capacity, with unchanged journalistic standards and editorial policies,” Subotic told BETA.
According to her, Serbia needs professional and responsible media now more than ever.
“Serbia’s socio-political situation demands brave media that will provide the public with correct, reliable and objective information in the interest of the public. Our goal is to guarantee professional and responsible reporting, and for the public to count on the relevant and objective information our media provide daily on all topics the public should know about,” Subotic explained.
She went on to say that Etisalat PPF Telekom, which bought local operator SBB, has expressed a strong interest in continuing to offer N1 and Nova to their clients. In fact, a contract providing these television programs not only to SBB subscribers but also to Yettel users has already been signed, Subotic stated.
