With a national energy system in disarray and the state-owned Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) power utility, the largest energy supplier, struggling to get a grip on its problems, Serbia is very likely to face power outages this winter. Enormous budget allocations are made to import electricity, and a recent decision to increase energy prices will not produce enough money to stabilize the EPS corporation, but will only slow down the fall of the company unless other steps are taken, including fresh investments, moves to prevent stealing on the grid and a plan to lay off redundant administrative staff.
