Serbian Opposition and Election Boycott

Less than three months ahead of regular general and local elections in Serbia, the opposition bloc that has declared a boycott is facing new divisions, while the messages being sent to voters are highly confusing. The leading opposition coalition, the Alliance for Serbia, still believes there are no conditions in place for fair and democratic elections and is formally in favor of a boycott, but the first cracks which might jeopardize the alliance’s unity are starting to appear. Discord became public and visible after the handful of cities in which opposition parties are still in power started sending out signals that it would not be wise to boycott the local elections, too.
