In an attempt to keep the COVID-19 epidemic under control, the Serbian authorities have been resorting to ever harsher repressive measures, exercising their emergency powers. Not only are the citizens asked to only leave their homes when really necessary, but they receive daily updates on the number of people arrested and punished for breaking the curfew. The government officials and media outlets close to them have been more frequently treating the citizens like disobedient children, who need to be brought in line, whereas calls and proposed actions, such as had been taken by some EU member states, have been put aside.
