Party of Freedom and Justice leader Dragan Djilas has made a risky and unexpected move this weekend by insisting that the leading opposition coalition’s joint candidate in presidential elections in April be retired lieutenant general Zdravko Ponos, formerly a vice-president of the People’s Party. By proposing Ponos, who is still a member of the Vuk Jeremic-led People’s Party, Djilas violated a coalition agreement envisaging that the presidential candidate be chosen and nominated via consensus.
