North Macedonia after European Council’s Decision

The EU member states’ presidents and prime ministers again could not agree on a date for initiating accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania, which may have serious consequences for the future of those countries, and the region as well.

Just two days after it definitely became clear there was no agreement on the start of accession talks, Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, the leaders of the parliamentary parties and President Stevo Pendarovski agreed in a meeting that a snap general election will be held on April 12, 2020.
