Serbian Opposition Ahead of Elections

The Serbian opposition’s decision to boycott the elections due to be held in April has been called into question, and that automatically means that the idea of a joint struggle for better electoral conditions, on which the country’s biggest opposition coalition – the Alliance for Serbia – is founded, is not doing so well. It is almost certain that in the city of Sabac, where the Serbian Progressive Party never managed to seize control over the local authorities, the opposition bloc led by Mayor Nebojsa Zelenovic will take part in the local elections and call for a boycott of the parliamentary vote. The opposition might also participate in the local elections in Paracin, where it is also in power. The head of the municipality is a vice president of the Democratic Party, Sasa Paunovic, which additionally complicates both his position in the party and relations within the party, which is already plagued by strong turmoil and (not yet public) resistance to the boycott.
