In a March 19 recommendation, the Serbian government suggested that Serbian nationals living abroad should postpone travelling to Serbia until further notice.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on March 18 that it had "distributed the recommendation in all possible ways, using diplomatic and consular offices, the Serbian Orthodox Church and the expatriate community's media."

The government said in a release that "after restrictive measures have been introduced in many states, a large number of Serbian nationals are stranded in different destinations and can't get back to Serbia." These are the citizens whom the outbreak found abroad as business travellers, tourists, patients or students.

The ministry underlines that "Serbia's diplomatic and consular offices are doing everything they can to help them and arrange their return home if necessary." The foreign ministry also appeals to "all the citizens not to travel back if they can stay in the foreign state."
