Democratic Party Gripped by In-Fighting

A session of the Democratic Party's  steering committee interrupted on June 21 resumed in Sabac on June 28; at the same time, the steering committee of a faction opposed to the party leadership convened in Belgrade.

Party president Zoran Lutovac told the Sabac meeting that the assembly in Belgrade was against the party Statute and that there could not be two steering committees.

He motioned for the expulsion of Balsa Bozovic, Radoslav Milojicic "Kena," Slobodan Milosavljevic, Branislav Lecic and Goran Jaic, accusing them of masterminding a failed attempt to seize the the party rudder with the help of Serbian Progressive Party officials.

In Belgrade, the faction opposed to the party leadership authorized Dragoslav Sumarac, Vida Ognjenovic and Aleksandra Jerkov to sign a contract on unification with Nebojsa Zelenovic's Together for Serbia party and Boris Tadic's Social Democratic Party.
