Ivica Dacic (Beta/Foreign Ministry)

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on July 6 that earlier that day Greece temporarily closed its borders for Serbian tourists as the coronavirus situation was worsening in Serbia and the region, adding that new cases had been reported among Serbian visitors in Greece, which was another reason for the move.

The minister said in an interview with the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) that the decision was "unpleasant," but that the situation was "far from normal," too.

Dacic explained that the Greek authorities made the decision "because of the epidemiological situation in the region and Serbia, which has a strong impact on the health of tourists - Serbian tourists infected with the coronavirus have already been registered in Greece."

As he put it, "essential travel" would be allowed, requiring a special permit though. Minister Dacic suggested that all Serbian travellers should be properly informed, and that they can directly contact his ministry.
