Only subsequently had Moscow learned the details of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s visit to Washington, which had caused surprise among the Russian leadership, Moscow daily Kommersant wrote in its Sept. 8 issue.
According to the daily, Moscow has been surprised with the meeting outcome, which has also triggered “a sarcastic” post of on social networks by the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Department director, Maria Zakharova.
“The signing of the item on Kosovo and Israel agreeing to mutually recognize each other in Vucic’s presence essentially legitimizes Pristina’s aspiration to self-determination. The Russian authorities have, apparently, been warning the Serbian president of the consequences of certain items contained in the Washington agreement,” according to Kommersant.
The daily further reported, citing sources in Russian state administration, that in parallel, “Belgrade has not informed Moscow about all the items that have been entered into the agreement, including those on moving the Serbian Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, designating Hizballah in its entirety as a terrorist organization and prohibiting the use of Chinese technologies.”
“President Vucic has informed Moscow about the results of his visit to Washington, but only after Maria Zakharova’s post,” Kommersant wrote.
