Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar confirmed on Sept. 9 that Serbia will not participate in clinical trials of the Chinese coronavirus vaccine because conditions of the country’s Medicines and Medical Devices Agency have not been met.

“I’ve heard that one trial was suspended which is normal as it offers an opportunity to improve the vaccine. Only when the conditions are met, when a vaccine meets all the standards, will we recommend it to our citizens,” Loncar told the RTS public service.

He added that on Oct. 1 vaccination against the seasonal flu will begin, which will prevent the combining of the two viruses. According to him, the medical workers are ready for the new coronavirus wave and that although not everything is known about the virus, all of them are trained to use protective gear.

Loncar also said that he will have meetings with the directors of hospitals outside the covid system so that the current lull in the virus spread can be used to accelerate the treatment of patients with other conditions, whose checkups were postponed due to the pandemic.
