Jan. 21 is the seventh anniversary of negotiations on Serbia's EU accession and 2020 which will be marked by the fact that Serbia has failed to open a single negotiating chapter and achieved very little progress on its road to the EU, the Belgrade Center for European Policies has announced.
The Center said that the authorities in Serbia were chiefly responsible for the "unjustified lateness in meeting obligations in key areas and hence the fulfillment of any promises that were made long ago such as the adoption of a new Media Strategy or a Strategy for Reforming the Justice System are seen as successes."
The organization called on the government "to show its commitment to reforms and its true loyalty to European values and the European path," adding that the authorities needed to stop confusing citizens and encouraging the EU's opponents "by sending mixed messages on 'the most important' international partners."
