Serbia's leading epidemiologist Dr Zoran Radovanovic said on March 29 that the number of new infections reported on a daily basis and the ratio between the Covid-19 incidence and the number of tested people had placed Serbia in the "black zone."
The doctor recalled that that the number of new infections had been oscillating around 5,000 for days, bringing the infection rate at some 35 percent. "Serbia is in the black zone, and given the number of new Covid-19 patients, the situation is dramatic," Dr Radovanovic said in an interview with the N1 TV.
When asked to make a comment on recent hints that restaurants and bars would be allowed to serve people sitting outside, the medical expert said that Serbia's restrictions were already softer than elsewhere in Europe, saying it would be "absurd" to ease them up some more when "the situation in Serbia is worse than in other states."
The director of the University Clinical Center of Serbia, Dr Milika Asanin, said on March 29 that 900 Covid-19 patients had been treated at a Covid-19 hospital in Batajnica, and another 100 at the Infection Disease Clinic in downtown Belgrade. Describing the situation as serious, the doctor has warned that the hospitalized patients have more serious symptoms as before, requiring prolonged treatment.
