Pulmonologist Dejan Zujovic, the head of the outpatient clinic of the Belgrade Institute for Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis, is of the opinion that a consensus should be reached for a full lockdown that would last for at least two weeks as otherwise COVID-19 will continue to spread.
“On one side we have the experts who are going into the red zone and who know what should be done, and on the other we have the [COVID-19] Crisis Headquarters where the experts, or rather quasi-experts, and politicians are balancing between the ratings, economic gain, individual interests, lobbies and the epidemic,” Zujovic stated for the April 1 issue of the NIN weekly.
“The completely contrary statements coming from the members of the same team [Crisis Headquarters] are unacceptable,” he pointed out, “especially when what needs to be done is obvious to everyone.”
According to him, if the success and rating of a government is “determined via faked data and faked number of deaths, then these are the last days of the state we know as Serbia.”
“It’s unacceptable, and in a more normal system they would have been forced long ago to resign and by now would be long forgotten; but here they still do more than well,” Zujovic concluded.
