U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken congratulated Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti after the successful democratic elections held on Feb. 14, and reiterated that Kosovo would always have support from the U.S..
According to the April 8 statement of the Kosovo government, Blinken stated that the United States welcomed the forming of the new government and was looking forward to close cooperation, aimed at securing "that the sovereign, independent, multi-ethnic and democratic Kosovo takes its place as an equal member in the Euro-Atlantic family."
"Blinken commended Premier Kurti's commitment to the fight against corruption, strengthening of the rule of law and recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, and his efforts to materialize the strivings of the people of Kosovo," it was stated.
The U.S. secretary of state said that securing a comprehensive agreement on the normalization of relations with Serbia was crucial for Kosovo to accomplish "its full potential and move forward on the path to EU membership."
