Serbia is the only EU membership candidate to not support the EU's latest package of sanctions against individuals and companies in Belarus, the European Council said on July 6.
The EU Council introduced on June 21 punitive measures against 78 Belarus nationals and seven entities for severe breaches of human rights and repressing civil society, the opposition and journalists and the forced landing of a passenger plane.
Serbia did, however, support the Council's second decision, also on June 21, adding another entity to list of sanctioned persons and entities.
"Candidate states North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania and the member states of the European Free Trade Association, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, have joined the Council's decision. They will make sure that their national policies are in accordance with this decision by the Council. The EU acknowledges this obligation and welcomes it," a statement said.
