EU Delegation to Serbia Head Emanuele Giaufret has said that May 9 is the occasion to celebrate the vision of a united Europe, which relies on peace, the rule of human rights and solidarity, noting that these are the values which bring prosperity to citizens.
“That vision has become a reality as the principle of cooperation has come to life. We are looking at difficult times ahead, but we can do better together and it is the only way to build a better future,” Giaufret said in the evening on May 9 at the opening of Festival of Europe at the Freedom Square in Novi Sad.
Serbian EU Integration Minister Jadranka Joksimovic described Victory Day and Europe Day as two inseparably linked days as Europe Day had been created on the legacy of solidarity of European nations to make Europe a peaceful and prosperous place. French Ambassador to Serbia Pierre Cochard said that Europe had been promoting and defending its values, while being devoted to freedom and peace, adding that a united Europe was actually a Europe of diversities. He wished Serbia to pursue the path of reforms toward a place in the EU.
The festivity program included the premier of a mobile mural titled “Artists in residence,” presenting the vision of Europe’s future as seen by young European artists, and “Better Together” concert by Western Balkans Youth Orchestra.
