Mladjan Djordjevic, the president of the Liberation Movement, said on May 25 that the Serbian Orthodox Church’s decision to acknowledge the Macedonian Orthodox Church as autocephalous is a step towards Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo.
Djordjevic labeled the move “scandalous” and claimed it was the result of “external dictates.”
“It has turned out that the ‘historic reconciliation’ between the [Serbian Orthodox Church] and the Archbishopric of Ohrid – along with the joint holy liturgy which I attended myself – was a mere farce. A performance for the people meant only to confuse them further while, off stage, [they were] preparing to embrace a Communist creation which our previous patriarchs German, Pavle and Irinej [all] refused to accept,” Djordjevic concluded.
