Ambassador Hill: Strategic Partnership Discussed Between U.S. And Serbia

U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill has said that a strategic partnership was discussed between his country and Serbia, and that such an agreement was possible in the future.

Speaking about the war in Ukraine and Serbia’s refusal to introduce sanctions against Russia, the U.S. diplomat explained there was understanding for Belgrade’s dependence on Russian energy, but that, “It’s not good that Serbia is still sitting on the fence between good and evil.”” Hill said in an interview with the Voice of America that the U.S. has set no specific deadlines for solving the Kosovo issue, but that he hoped for progress soon, adding that his country supported the French-German proposition.

“There are many things on which we want to work together with Serbia, and we want the Kosovo issue to be resolved in some form. I’d rather not discuss specificities, that is up to the Europeans. What I can say though is that the Europeans want this thing to move on. It obviously involves difficult issues, but it’s important that both sides understand that there are other things happening in Europe, Ukraine for instance, and that it’s time to make some progress,” Hill said, adding that a good place for Serbian security would be in NATO.
