Ministerial Posts Important to Bosniac Parties, Not People

The director of the "DamaD" cultural center in Novi Pazar, Zibija Sarenkapic, assessed on Oct. 27 that the appointment of two Bosniac ministers to the new Serbian government would benefit the political parties they are coming from, but not the Bosniac people.

She told Radio Sto Plus that representatives of minority peoples "always get the ministries that fundamentally cannot have effect on the crucial stances of the government. All the ministries that are less important for crucial matters are given to representatives of ethnic minorities. Consequently, their capacity is severely limited despite them being called ministers," Sarenkapic stated.

The Bosniac ministers in the new Serbian government are Husein Memic of the Sandzak Democratic Party, in charge of the sectors of tourism and youth, and Edin Djerlek of the Party of Justice and Reconciliation, who is a minister without portfolio.

Sarenkapic assessed that Djerlek's position was still unclear and that "it is unknown" what the new minister would be in charge of. As for the minister for tourism, she said that something could still be expected in that field. "Naturally, do not expect anything special. Even if something does happen, it might be spectacular for us, but still unimportant for the country," stated the director of the "DamaD" cultural center.
