German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in Berlin on Nov. 3 that all of the countries of the Western Balkans were part of free and democratic Europe and that it was the shared job of the EU and the region to turn the European future that was promised to them into reality.
At the opening of a Berlin Process summit, Scholz said that today's meeting was an opportunity to discuss the many challenges that the Western Balkan's faced. He said that he was sure that the Berlin Process could not only unlock the region's potential but speed up its road to the EU.
The German chancellor said that, at this moment when Russia was waging a brutal war against Ukraine, it was time to overcome internal conflicts.
He reiterated that the Berlin Process's interior ministers discussed on Oct. 20 the also important question of illegal migrations and human trafficking. He said that today, promises to the Western Balkans were being made with a sense of urgency and that the citizens of the region could count on Germany and the Berlin Process.
