Economy Minister Registers EU Path Movement
Economy Minister Rade Basta on June 20 said he had created and registered the EU Path Movement, which would run in all future elections.
Basta told BETA that the EU Path Movement would be soon transformed into a political party.
“For its geographic position and the values it treasures, Serbia belongs to the Western world. Therefore, Serbia’s natural position is in the EU,” Basta stressed, adding that the Movement advocated stepping up EU accession process and implementation of the necessary reforms.
“Priorities include preserving peace and stability, improving democracy, respect of human and minority rights and also respect of equality and dignity. Continued development of Serbia is of great importance in order to ensure good living conditions for all our citizens. Therefore, I will be running in all elections in the future,” Basta said.
United Serbia party leader Dragan “Palma” Markovic has said he has requested dismissal of Rade Basta as economy minister, adding that for the United Serbia party, Basta was no longer a member of the party or a cabinet minister.
“Rade Basta has been given a deadline to resign from all positions he was nominated to by the United Serbia party, including the post of the economy minister in the Serbian cabinet,” Markovic said. Explaining the reasons behind this decision, Markovic cited Basta’s initiative for imposing sanctions against Russia and his call to other cabinet minister to join the protests in Belgrade.
