Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs and leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia Ivica Dacic stated on July 17 – on occasion of his party’s 33rd anniversary – that the Socialists stand for “timeless ideas,” including the principle of social justice.
In an interview for Happy TV, Dacic said that he does not support utopian socialism and recognizes that a stable economy is “necessary before social justice principles can be enacted.” With regards to foreign policy, he added, the Socialists believe that Serbia should “keep with the EU and the European Social Charter.”
“Fair income distribution, fair taxation policies – these are issues that will always be relevant and there will always be the need for a Socialist movement. One should not be against rich people, but rather against thieves who accumulate wealth illegally,” Dacic explained.
He further said that people today live in a “mixed society, which scientists haven’t managed to fully explain so they call it ‘new society’.”
Asked about the recent recall of 23 Serbian ambassadors, Dacic replied that, so far, only those officials whose four-year mandate has expired have been relieved of duty, but that the plan is for all ambassadors who assumed office in 2019 to be recalled as well.
From now on, Dacic announced, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will introduce a policy of replacing ambassadors once their four-year term is over.
