Citizens and representatives of the Serbia against Violence coalition, which alleges there was election fraud during voting on Dec. 17, protested in front of the seat of the Serbian Electoral Commission, demanding a repeat of the Belgrade local elections due to numerous irregularities that the alliance said it could prove.
Marinika Tepic and Miroslav Aleksic, who headed the Serbia against Violence ticket, announced a hunger strike on Electoral Commission premises until the Belgrade election is annulled.
"We entered [the Electoral Commission seat] as members of parliament because we must not recognize the Belgrade election. We have hundreds of complaints. There were a lot of voters from neighboring countries. The interior minister of another country voted in the Belgrade election. Miroslav Aleksic and I are staying here for a while and starting a hunger strike," N1 TV quoted Tepic as saying.
The ticket's MPs entered the building of the parliament to deliver evidence of irregularities during the Dec. 17 voting, which they say affected the results, to the Serbian Electoral Commission.
The assembled protesters chanted "crooks, crooks" and derogatory slogans against Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, carried signs reading "I want my gas," "Riffraff steals Belgrade" and blew whistles to express discontent over the events at the Dec. 17 elections.
