Belgraders paid their respects to the victims of a terrorist attack in Moscow in an assembly at the monument to Alexander Pushkin on March 23, even though the Russian Democratic Society first called and then canceled the assembly.

Peter Nikitin, an activist of the Russian Democratic Society, told N1 that the police had called before the assembly at Pushkin's memorial to warn of the "serious danger and security risk" of holding the gathering and that the organization was therefore forced to cancel it.

People still gathered, and Nikitin said activists of the Russian Democratic Society went there for the sake of everyone who had not seen the notice of cancellation. He said the rally was originally supposed to be held by the Russian embassy, but was moved due to security concerns.

Serbian state leaders have sent condolences to Russia.
