An armed rebellion in which the Special Operations Unit (JSO) was involved in 2001 was a prelude to the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic and no verdict can alter that fact, while the judgment only proves that the government granting amnesty to criminals need to be changed, the Democratic Party has said in a release, commenting on the court ruling acquitting the members of now-disbanded JSO accused of involvement in the rebellion against the Djindjic government.
“The acquittal of the Red Berets engaged in the mutiny sends across a dangerous and disquieting message to all democratically oriented and free-thinking people. It shows that we live in a country where criminal intentions and attempts at disturbing normality are pardoned, while innocent children are made criminals…The Democratic Party shall not forget that the incumbent government has always advocated ‘relativization’ of crimes and historical revisionism, and more dangerously, that has been demonstrated by their concrete actions for years now, while the June 24 court ruling only constitutes a part of their common practice," the party said in the release.
