Workers at the Fiat Plastic factory on Feb. 19 continued their general strike, sparked by wage cuts, having completely halted the production of bumpers for the 500L model.

According to Strike Committee member Bojan Bozovic, Feb. 19 would be the second day that would not see the daily production of 360 to 400 bumpers in two shifts, bringing the total for the two days to 720 to 800 bumpers not made.

Bozovic said 80 to 90 employees were on strike, including managers -- shift leaders, team leads and supervisors.

The general strike at Fiat Plastic started on Feb. 18. The Strike Committee's demands the plant reinstate the vacation expense amount of before Jan. 1 and pay 65 instead of the current 60 percent of full wages to workers on paid leave.

The Strike Committee reiterated that the workers had been punished by slashing of wages after the Independent Union declined to sign a collective contract with the employer because of a paragraph on forgoing the right to strike.

Bozovic said the strikers at Fiat Plastic had the support of the Independence Union of the Fiat Chrysler factory in Serbia.
