Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic said on May 22 that it was fair to say that the Covid-19 outbreak in Leskovac was in hand, and that the Covid-19 situation in Vranje would be under control soon, too.

Tiodorovic told Pink TV that most of the new cases in the two cities were young patients with mild symptoms, rarely moderately severe, which indicated that the epidemic was declining.

"Here we have positive patients with mild clinical presentation, and much fewer, much more rarely, with moderate clinical presentation. In both Leskovac and Vranje young people testing positive, possible carriers of this disease, predominate. In southern Serbia, there are the big factories Yura and Geox, with some 2,850 workers -- or 1,300 in the second plant. Young folks work there, women and men from the surrounding villages," Tiodorovic said.

According to him, operative teams of health and labor inspectors have been formed to oversee the implementation of all preventive measures to make sure the infection does not spread further.

Tiodorovic said nurses and carers in day care centers in Leskovac, Vlasotince and Vranje had tested positive for Covid-19, but as they had used personal protective equipment in their work, none of the children had been at risk and the day care centers can continue to operate.
