Three people died from the consequences of the coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours in Serbia, and the infection was confirmed in 228 cases, it was announced on July 22.

The Health Ministry announced on its covid19.rs web-site that 8,969 people were tested in the past 24 hours. There are 320 people currently being treated for covid-19 in hospitals, 11 of them on ventilators. Since the start of the epidemic in Serbia, the coronavirus infection has been registered in 719,462 people, while 7,095 have died.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon stated on July 22 that the situation was deteriorating, with hospitals beginning to fill-up with patients, that the measures that are still in effect should be adhered to and that the vaccination should continue.

He told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) that the situation would be different on Aug. 1, when the Crisis Headquarters for fighting against the coronavirus is to hold a session, and that new measures would probably be imposed. He added that it was highly unethical for medical staff to refuse to be vaccinated, not only because of their safety, but because of the potential danger for their patients.
