Minister of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Goran Vesic met on Feb. 1 with the Italian ambassador to Serbia, Luca Gori, to discuss opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation, particularly in the area of infrastructure, Vesic’s office reported.

Ambassador Gori informed Vesic of a Serbia-Italy Business Forum to be held in Belgrade, on March 21, adding that a large number of companies had already expressed their interest in. The ambassador invited the minister to attend the event, and the minister accepted the invitation, a press release by the Office of the Minister went on to say.

The Italian diplomat noted that his country was among Serbia’s leading bilateral partners in Europe, adding that 1,200 Italian companies had been registered in Serbia, and that there’s enough room for expanding bilateral ties. The ambassador said that the Business Forum in March would attract some of Italy’s largest corporations, and that the event would cover three major sectors – energy and green transition, agriculture and infrastructure.

Minister Vesic said that Italian companies were welcome to invest in Serbia. “It will be a pleasure to introduce the Italian companies to all the opportunities and advantages of investing in Serbia. We will soon have several tenders with the European Union for the construction of a high-speed rail to connect Belgrade and Nis, and the next year bids would be called for another high-speed rail from Nis to the border with North Macedonia, and Italian companies are welcome to apply,” Vesic said.
