Elections are not a time to be politically picky because there is a good chance for a regime change and democratic changes, said Dobrica Veselinovic, an incumbent capital alderman and the lead candidate on the Serbia Against Violence ticket for Belgrade’s local election.

In a statement for the Nov. 2 edition of the Nedeljnik weekly, the alderman said that winning in Belgrade would open the doors to a new brand of politics.

“Belgrade needs us to demonstrate through personal example, as politicians, that we live like every other person in Belgrade. [To see us] not bragging that we’ve never used public transport, that we’ve illegally expanded our house, that we’re arrogant toward City Directorate employees – [to see us] not calling citizens ‘toxic,’” Veselinovic concluded.
